'CNN: US nearly targeted Chinese ship over faulty AI report'

 The United States nearly launched a military intervention against a Chinese vessel in the Middle East that was believed to be transporting nuclear weapon components after an AI-generated report circulating among US forces earlier this year raised concern, sources told CNN on Friday.

Namely, Washington mobilized forces, with military aircraft flying over the vessel and armed personnel preparing to board, before officials discovered that the intelligence report that had raised alarms over the ship's alleged nuclear-related cargo had been compiled by a Special Operations Command Pacific analyst using an AI chatbot. The report was "entirely false," the insider said.

It is believed that the AI bot put together open-source intelligence with secret information in government possession, which led to the conclusion about the material on the vessel.
