Canada's Ambassador to the European Union Jonathan Wilkinson said on Thursday that Canada and the EU will announce jointly agreed initiatives at their summit in October.
Wilkinson told reporters that both sides are working to advance proposals they have exchanged, with discussions focused on achieving "concrete results."
Addressing European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen's proposed "associate member" designation for Canada, the ambassador said: "We're not there." He added that Ottawa and Brussels are considering different ways to describe their growing cooperation. United States President Donald Trump threatened to impose "very heavy tariffs on Europe" if he discovers the bloc's intent is a "hostile" one.
