Like most of you, I assumed that the "Ds" would win in Minnesota in November. Then I saw this:
The Co/efficient survey, fielded September 14-15, found Democrat Sen. Amy Klobuchar at 47 percent and Republican House Speaker Lisa Demuth at 45 percent in the race to succeed retiring Gov. Tim Walz.
In the Senate contest, Democrat Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan led Republican Michele Tafoya, a former sports broadcaster, 43 percent to 42 percent.
Dustin Grage, a Minnesota-based Republican strategist and Townhall columnist, circulated the numbers, arguing they show the party competing statewide.
“Minnesota is in play for Republicans up and down the ballot,” Grage wrote.
Minnesota in play for the GOP? Is that possible? I don't know for sure, and a few more polls may be needed. At the same time, outgoing Governor Walz has not excelled in governing, and the state outside of Minneapolis is very competitive.
As we know, Minnesota has been in the news for fraud scandals tied to Medicaid and pandemic aid. The numbers are in the millions of dollars earmarked for welfare programs. It got so bad that Walz decided to pass on reelection. The land of 10,000 lakes is known these days as the land of 10,000 and growing fraud cases.
We will wait for more polls. My guess is that Senator Klobuchar will win because she always does. She is a "vanilla" type Democrats who talks nice but always votes with Senator Schumer. The U.S. Senate race may indeed be a surprise because of the candidates. On one hand, you have the Minnesota version of Talarico, Lt. Governor Flanagan. She is weird, as a friend in Minnesota told me. On the other hand, newcomer Michelle Tafoya has the message down and presents the kind of alternative that may just flip the Senate seat.
Keep an eye on Minnesota. A surprise may be coming,
