'Iran-backed Houthis told US they would not attack American vessels in Oman talks - Reuters'

US officials met senior Houthi representatives in Oman over the weekend, where the Iran-backed group said it had no intention of attacking American vessels and remained committed to its 2025 ceasefire with Washington, Reuters reported Wednesday.

The meeting, which one source said took place Sunday at the US Embassy in Muscat, was organized with help from the Omani government, according to Reuters.

Two sources told Reuters that the Houthis said they would not attack American vessels. A Yemeni source also said the group pledged not to target Israeli ships or other commercial vessels, except those belonging to Saudi Arabia.

The US side was represented by embassy personnel, while the Houthi delegation included senior officials Mohammad Abdulsalam and Abdelmalik al-Ajri, Reuters reported.

The US State Department did not confirm the meeting but said protecting freedom of navigation in the Red Sea and preventing the export of terrorism from the Middle East were core US interests, according to the report.
