Blanche says AI panic 'way to influence midterms'

 United States Attorney General Todd Blanche on Tuesday criticized recent talks over artificial intelligence regulation, saying their timing appeared aimed at influencing the midterm elections.

"Every Democrat senator suddenly races to a microphone to talk about AI after being eerily silent for months; that shouldn't be what drives decisions we make around AI," the attorney general added, stressing that Washington will not let the country lose in the AI race to China.

Commenting on the threat of Chinese actors stealing technology from US AI companies, Blanche said the Justice Department is actively working to counter the threat, while "drawing a distinction" between the Chinese government and individual companies or actors.
