The United States Environmental Protection Agency will lift emissions limits for coal and gas power plants, according to media report on Monday. The measure could be announced at the G20 energy summit later in the day.
According to sources familiar with the matter, the change could also prevent future administrations from enacting new regulations curbing emissions from plants. They added that the EPA will argue that greenhouse gases generated by the fossil-fuel-burning plants are harmful to humans and the environment. The decision is likely to be challenged in courts.
