President Donald Trump said Sunday that China’s alleged spying on the United States was no different from Washington’s own intelligence-gathering efforts, amid reports that Chinese entities supplied Iran with satellite imagery of Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan.
“They basically do what we do,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One, adding that Chinese President Xi Jinping had “behaved reasonably well.”
“You know what they say? That China spies on us,” Trump said. “I say you’re right, and we spy on them, too.”
The remarks came after the Wall Street Journal reported that Iran obtained high-resolution satellite imagery from Chinese entities before a July 17 strike on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base that killed three US troops.
