Iraq finds suspected drone launch sites near Iran border after Saudi pipeline strike

Iraqi security forces found traces of explosives and suspected drone launch sites near the border with Iran as they searched for those behind the attack that forced Saudi Arabia to shut its main oil pipeline.

A security source told Al Jazeera that traces of explosives indicating drones had been launched were found near the Duwayrij River in the Jazirat al-Tayyib area of Maysan province.

AFP separately reported that security forces had found drone launchers in the remote al-Tib area of Maysan, close to the Iranian border.

The discoveries come after Iraqi and Saudi authorities said drones used to attack Saudi Arabia’s East-West pipeline were launched from Iraqi territory.

Iran-backed Iraqi armed groups have denied responsibility, saying they would have been “proud” to carry out such an attack but had not done so. No group has claimed responsibility.
