US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Tuesday that he would meet Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng this weekend ahead of a meeting between President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping next week.
Bessent told the House Financial Services Committee that Trump and Xi would continue discussions on Iran and China’s financial links to Tehran, which Washington has been seeking to cut off from Western financial systems.
He also said the United States had held “good private discussions” with China on Iranian financial links and had seen public signals from the United Arab Emirates about cutting off Iran’s access to financing.
