SCOTUS allows California's new congressional map

 The US Supreme Court ruled on Wednesday that California could use a new voter-approved congressional map that significantly favored Democrats.

Rejecting a last-ditch appeal from state Republicans and the Trump administration, the court also stated that the map, which is likely to give the Democrats five Republican seats and enough House seats to counter GOP gains in Texas, will take effect before the midterm elections in November.

The map was crafted in response to a Texas Republican-friendly map for 2026 previously approved by the justices, despite a lower court's decision that it probably discriminated based on race. California's congressional primary registration period opens on February 9.
