Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Friday that Ukraine could hold presidential elections if United States President Donald Trump can "deliver" a ceasefire for "two or three months."
"If President Trump gives me, pushing [Russian President Vladimir] Putin, a ceasefire for two or three months - we will do elections," Zelensky stated in an interview for Politico, referring to the US president's previous remarks, adding that conditions for holding elections in Ukraine are currently "terrible."
He also underlined that Trump needs to "give strong security guarantees" to Ukrainians, enable a reconstruction package for renovations and call on Putin to "freeze the conflict" in order to have a trilateral meeting on the leaders' level.
