The European Commission announced on Friday that it started an antitrust investigation into French pharma giant Sanofi S.A., suspecting it of carrying out a misleading communication campaign to portray a rival in a negative light.
The Commission said that Sanofi may have sought to disparage an enhanced flu vaccine made by CSL Seqirus, a division of Australian biotech firm CSL, in order to improve the sales of its own vaccine. The probe concerns a campaign targeting healthcare professionals in Germany and France, where Sanofi holds a dominant position. The Commission added that there is no legal deadline for its investigation.
