Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warned that safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz is only possible via maritime routes designated by Tehran.
"...movement of vessels outside these routes is very dangerous and prohibited, and we warn you to avoid any movement outside the separately notified routes," the IRGC Navy said, according to the country's Fars news agency.
The statement stressed further that passage through the strait requires coordination with Iran's navy and that "violating vessels will be dealt with."
