'NYT: Meta said to be working on prediction markets app'

 Meta Platforms Inc. CEO Mark Zuckerberg ordered a small team at the company to start working on a prediction markets app, the New York Times reported on Tuesday, citing sources familiar with the task.

While the app would have some similarities with Polymarket and Kalshi, it wouldn't allow money wagering and would likely rely on a points system such as the ones found in video games, one of the sources detailed. Nonetheless, Meta isn't ruling out the use of real-money betting, which could happen at some point in time.

The app has been dubbed "Arena," and would work independently from the tech giant's other flagship apps, such as Instagram or WhatsApp. The sources mentioned that while this is a top priority for Zuckerberg, the project is still in its experimental phase.
