Microsoft announces multibillion-dollar Texas AI center

Microsoft Corporation and Chevron Corporation announced a "multibillion-dollar" partnership to develop a large-scale data center and dedicated power project in West Texas on Monday, combining AI infrastructure expansion with long-term energy supply.

Microsoft said it will build a new data center campus in Pecos, Texas, adding around 2 gigawatts of capacity to its global network to meet rising demand for artificial intelligence and cloud services. The company expects the project to "support more than 6,000 construction jobs" and create hundreds of permanent roles, describing it as a long-term investment in the region.

Chevron, through its subsidiary Energy Forge One, said it has signed a 20-year power purchase agreement to develop a co-located facility under "Project Kilby," which is set to provide about 2.67 gigawatts of capacity using natural gas and renewable-linked infrastructure.
