The United States could take "strong action" against state-subsidized Chinese-made robots after a Commerce Department review is completed, Politico reported on Tuesday, citing people who attended a closed-door meeting with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick.
According to the report, officials increasingly view Chinese robotics companies as a national security concern and a key area of competition, warning that Beijing could gain an advantage over US manufacturers. "We don't want state-subsidized robotics attacking us in America," he said. "We need to make sure they're produced in America, so we're going to study those right now."
The outlet also reported that the Pentagon's Office of Strategic Capital (OSC) is reviewing financing for robotics companies Foundation Robotics and Standard Bots to help boost domestic production.
