Current candidate for the 2026 Labour Party leadership election, Andy Burnham, is gearing up to oust Rachel Reeves (pictured) as Chancellor of the Exchequer but offer her a different cabinet position, The Financial Times reported on Tuesday, citing people close to Labour's likely next leader.
According to the outlet, Yvette Cooper, the foreign secretary, Shabana Mahmood, the home secretary, Ed Miliband, the energy secretary, and Wes Streeting, the former health secretary, have all been mentioned as possible replacements as the UK finance minister.
Following the approval of access conversations with potential Labour leadership contenders by departing Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Burnham is also expected to start getting government briefings from civil servants.
