Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met with his Omani counterpart, Badr al-Busaidi, in Muscat on Sunday, according to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei. The talks were centered on improving coordination between the two countries regarding future shipping and transit protocols within the Strait of Hormuz.
He stated that in order to achieve "a common understanding" on marine security in the strait, Iran and Oman decided to continue political, legal, and technical negotiations. He also mentioned that a delegation from Qatar attended part of the discussions.
Baghaei said Iran considered that "future arrangements for managing traffic in the Strait of Hormuz must be made through consultations between the two coastal states" and ought to consider "recent months' developments, especially the imposed US-Israeli war and its security consequences for shipping."
