The crew of a ship suspected of being targeted by Iran has abandoned their vessel following an incident 9 nautical miles east of Oman, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) announced.
"UKMTO has been informed by military authorities and the CSO of the vessel that the crew have abandoned the vessel and are currently embarked in a lifeboat," the statement said, as the ship "has sustained damage to the rear of the vessel which has caused a fire onboard."
This comes after Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) intercepted and struck a ship in the Strait of Hormuz, accusing it of ignoring official shipping routes, prompting the Navy to close the strait until further notice.
