Eli Lilly announced on Wednesday that it filed six lawsuits against US entities that sell illegal retatrutide products. These companies include compounding pharmacies, medical spas, and internet vendors who misrepresent their medications as being for "research-use only" when in fact they are meant for human use.
"Retatrutide is being rigorously studied as part of a comprehensive clinical trial development program," Lilly Chief Medical Officer Dr. David Hyman noted. "We take the responsibility of evaluating the safety and efficacy of our investigational medicines seriously. What is being sold on the black market is not a medicine—it is entirely unverified, unapproved, and not worth the risk."
Retatrutide is currently undergoing Phase 3 clinical studies for obesity, type 2 diabetes, and other linked disorders, according to the drugmaker. The US Food and Drug Administration stated in June that retatrutide and other unapproved GLP-1 product sales to consumers were illegal and cannot be compounded legally.
