US revokes over 175,000 visas

The United States Department of State announced on Monday that it has revoked more than 175,000 visas from foreign nationals who, according to the agency, violated the terms under which they obtained those documents by committing crimes, fraud, instigation, and other systemic abuse, posing a risk to national security.

"The majority of these visas were revoked due to law enforcement encounters for a range of criminal activity, with assault, driving under the influence, theft, and drug crimes being the leading causes. A significant share of visas were revoked for reckless driving, sexual assault, child abuse, fraud and embezzlement, and other crimes," the State Department claimed in a written statement.

The agency added that Secretary of State Marco Rubio and President Donald Trump remain committed to identifying other similar cases and revoking visas of "foreign nationals who threaten the safety of the American people."
