Hormuz traffic weakens further over the weekend

Shipping through the Strait of Hormuz "weakened further" over the weekend, global data and analytics company Kpler said on Monday.

"From 7 to 9 August, confirmed crossings fell from 15 on Friday to 11 on Saturday and just six on Sunday, bringing the three day total to 32. Routing also remained concentrated, with 17 vessels using the Iranian Unilateral Scheme and 10 classified as Route Undetermined," the firm wrote in a post on X.

Regarding the traffic through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, where the maritime threat risk was raised to "substantial" due to Houthi attacks, the company said it remained more active, with 116 crossings during the same period. However, Kpler stressed that "12 dark transits and elevated sanctioned activity continued to highlight visibility and risk concerns."
