The United States and Iran have reached an agreement to end hostilities, which will be announced in "the coming days," according to a RIA Novosti report published on Tuesday, citing Pakistani and Iranian military sources.
The deal includes free navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, the sources alleged, without sharing additional details. Further steps include the resumption of negotiations and technical-level meetings, as outlined in the Islamabad Memorandum. However, Washington and Tehran provided no comment, while tensions remained high in the wake of the US Treasury stepping up efforts to isolate Iran economically.
Meanwhile, Iran and Oman issued a joint statement proposing a temporary mechanism to restore traffic in the disputed waterway. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also spoke with Qatari and Pakistani mediators, amid rumors the US offered terms to Tehran via Islamabad.
