Israel is preparing for the possibility of an Iranian attack during the upcoming Jewish holidays and would respond with significant force, Defense Minister Israel Katz said on Wednesday.
“The prime minister and I are following this on a daily basis together with the IDF, sometimes in the middle of the night on the red phone,” Katz told a conference hosted by Ynet and Yedioth Ahronoth. “We are not taking any information lightly. We do not want to be surprised. We are prepared.”
Katz said Israel was currently allowing the United States to lead attacks on Iran because of Washington’s interests in the Strait of Hormuz and energy security, but warned that Israel could enter the conflict directly.
“If they attack us, we will respond with great force, independently of anyone else,” he said.
Katz also said Israel had destroyed Iran’s nuclear program during Operation Rising Lion and was monitoring for any attempt to rebuild it.
“We will not allow Iran to have nuclear weapons,” he said. “If something like that happens, and President Trump says the same thing, then we will likely attack together.
