Cambridge Dictionary hit on adding nonsense slang to database: ‘English is no longer a language’

Gen Z and Gen Alpha slang terms “skibidi,” “tradwife” and “delulu” are among the 6,000 new words that have been added to the world’s largest online dictionary, Cambridge Dictionary.

Skibidi, a nonsense word featured in a viral animated YouTube series, can mean “cool” or “bad” or be used with no real meaning as a joke.

Other additions include “tradwife,” a portmanteau of “traditional wife,” referring to a married mom who shares content of her cooking and cleaning on social media, and “delulu,” a shortening of “delusional.”

“Internet culture is changing the English language and the effect is fascinating to observe and capture in the dictionary,” Colin McIntosh, lexical program manager at Cambridge Dictionary, said in a statement.

“It’s not every day you get to see words like ‘skibidi’ and ‘delulu’ make their way into the Cambridge Dictionary. We only add words where we think they’ll have staying power,” he said.

The news of some of the nearly 6,000 new additions to the dictionary this year sparked bewilderment from many.

“Congratulations English is no longer a language, it’s a TikTok comment section,” one grumpy X user wrote.

“I’m usually fine with language evolving and changing and the dictionary keeping up but do not add the gibberish word Skibidi to the dictionary,” a second added.

“This is the reason why most of humanity is delulu,” a third joked.Skibidi was branded as an example of “brainrot” by writer and artist Lee Escobedo earlier this month.

“Skibidi brainrot encapsulates a generation fluent in irony but starved for meaning. This kind of hyper-chaotic media serves as both entertainment and an ambient worldview for young men raised online. Their minds normalize prank-as-expression,” he wrote in the Guardian.

A number of work-related terms have been added to the dictionary with the rise of post-pandemic remote working.

These include “mouse jiggler,” a piece of software or device used to make it seem like you are working.

Other terms include “work wife” and “work spouse.”

Biden threw open the border to rig the census — and elections for Dems

 by Miranda Devine

We know that the Biden administration deliberately broke the border and ushered in over 20 million illegal aliens, at a huge cost to the nation’s social welfare system, and with a reckless disregard for potential criminality and terrorism.

Exactly why it did it has always been the burning question.

A new Rasmussen poll gives us a clue: It’s the census.

There is mounting evidence that the Biden administration tried to cook the books to give Democrats an unfair advantage, which explains why a minority of Democrats (43% compared to 83% Republicans) approve of President Trump’s decision to take a new census that excludes illegal aliens from the population count.

Illegal migrants have always been included in the census, so blue states like California, Texas, New York and New Jersey, which bore the brunt of Biden’s influx, get increased representation, which means more congressional seats for Democrats, more Electoral College votes for Democrats, and more funding for Democrats.

Meanwhile, Democrat-proxy NGOs, not to mention federal agencies under Biden, like FEMA, were registering them to vote, even though they are not eligible. That’s why Democrats fought tooth and nail to prevent voter ID so that ineligible non-citizens could vote. Further down the track, they figured that amnesty would net them tens of millions of new Democratic voters — at least for a generation or so.

But that was just the icing on the cake. The census was the immediate payoff, and they didn’t care how many illegal aliens raped, murdered, robbed or extorted American citizens. They didn’t care that the social safety net in cities like New York was collapsing under the weight of all these new supplicants. Slave-labor wages that undercut American workers only make sense if the state picks up the cost of room and board and health care for the slaves.

It was the census that would give Democrats more power, and in April 2021, when Biden Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo announced the 2020 Census results, we started to see “errors” that mostly only went one way.

Red states like Florida, Texas, Mississippi, Arkansas and Tennessee were undercounted while blue states like New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Minnesota, and Biden’s home state of Delaware had overcounts, skewing political representation and funding allocation.

“The miscounts … particularly given that overrepresentation appears to have tended to noticeably skew in favor of one political party over another, demands additional scrutiny of potential political influence by the Biden-Harris Administration or other deficiencies that would explain these errors,” House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) wrote in a letter to the Census Bureau last year.

Rasmussen teased out public attitudes to these “errors” with a poll of 1,184 likely voters conducted August 11-13.

Just 37% of Democrats said illegal migrants should not be counted in the census, while 49% said they should, and 13% weren’t sure. By contrast, 65% of Republicans wanted illegal immigrants excluded, while a mystifying 29% wanted them to be counted.

On the question of Trump ordering up a new census to replace the error-ridden 2020 pandemic version, 57% of voters approved while 34% disapproved. Of those, a whopping 83% of Republicans were in favor compared to 43% of Democrats.

The fact is, even before Comer conducts his investigation, before all the evidence is in, Democratic voters instinctively know that the census hoax benefited their side.

Aortic aneurysm ‘silent killer’ — how to know if you need treatment, even with no symptoms

 Time for a heart-to-heart.

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the US, killing more Americans than cancer and unintentional injuries — including car crashes, falls and overdoses — combined.

You’ve probably heard of heart attacks, strokes and heart failure, but there’s a lesser-known, dangerous condition that’s often referred to as a “silent killer.”

An aortic aneurysm is a bulge of the aorta, the body’s largest blood vessel, which carries oxygenated blood from the heart to the rest of the body.

Here are key risk factors for aortic aneurysms and the latest treatment options.

Inside the aorta

The aorta begins at the heart’s base within the left ventricle, then extends upward, forming the aortic arch, before descending through the chest and into the belly.

Broadly speaking, there are two main types of aortic aneurysms.

Thoracic aneurysms generally refer to aneurysms in the chest, while abdominal aneurysms involve the part of the aorta that runs through the belly.

Consider getting screened if you have a family history of aortic aneurysms or if you’re a man over 65 who has smoked cigarettes.volha_r – stock.adobe.com

The most common type of aortic aneurysm is the infrarenal, which occurs in the abdominal aorta below the kidneys.

The size of aneurysms varies depending on their location in the body.

For example, in the chest, an aneurysm is when the aortic diameter is greater than 4.5 centimeters.

In the belly, a diameter of over 3 centimeters qualifies as an aneurysm.

What causes aortic aneurysms?

While the exact cause of aneurysms is often unknown, there are risk factors associated with the likelihood of developing one.

Age, the male sex, genetics and a bicuspid aortic valve — a common congenital heart defect where the aortic valve has two cusps instead of three — are important factors for aneurysms in the chest.

A bicuspid aortic valve occurs in about 1% of the population.

For aneurysms in the abdomen, age and being male are major factors, as well as high blood pressure and smoking.

You can reduce your risk with lifestyle changes such as quitting smoking, controlling blood pressure, following a heart-healthy diet and exercising regularly — though you should avoid very heavy lifting.

Consider getting screened if you have a family history of aortic aneurysms or if you’re a man over 65 who has smoked cigarettes.

Patients referred to our Aortic Center receive an evaluation and a personalized care plan, including genetic testing, advanced imaging and lifestyle recommendations.

How aortic aneurysms are diagnosed

People often ask us, “What are the symptoms of an aortic aneurysm?” And the truth is, the majority of patients don’t have symptoms.

Aortic aneurysms are considered “silent killers” because most patients don’t know they have them.

Fortunately, thanks to modern medical imaging techniques, most patients receive treatment before symptoms occur.

Ong works alongside Dr. Mark Peterson, professor in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, who also serves as system director of aortic surgery for NYU Langone Heart.Mateo Salcedo

Many patients are referred to our Aortic Center after a test they had done for another reason, such as a cough that didn’t go away, palpitations or a murmur, which led to an echocardiogram or a CT scan that uncovered the aneurysm.

When symptoms do occur, they can signal something major, like the aorta is about to rupture or a tear has developed, a serious condition known as an aortic dissection.

If you suddenly experience the worst chest pain of your life, a stabbing sensation radiating from front to back or severe abdominal pain, don’t hesitate to call 911. The sooner you get to the hospital for treatment, the better.

We understand that a diagnosis of an aneurysm can be very anxiety-provoking.

The good news is that our multidisciplinary team of experts is here every step of the way, from imaging to lifestyle changes and advice on blood pressure management to surgery if that’s required — and often it’s not. Our patients live full and active lives.

How aortic aneurysms are treated

Many patients with aortic aneurysms don’t need immediate surgery. Aneurysm size and location are significant factors in determining when surgery is necessary.

There are two main ways to treat aortic aneurysms. One is open aortic surgery, where a cut is made to directly access the aorta. Due to the location of aortic root and ascending aortic aneurysm and the desire to preserve the aortic valve, we tend to use open surgical techniques more often to repair aneurysms closer to the heart.

The other involves accessing the femoral artery in the groin. We insert a stent graft, which is basically like relining the inside of the aorta.

Technological advances mean more people can receive stent grafts instead of open surgery. It’s generally minimally invasive. Sometimes it’s even done when patients are awake. And it helps patients get out of the hospital faster.

Most of our surgical patients are in and out of the hospital within three to four days. They’re able to return to their daily routine — and hopefully live very long and happy lives.

Together, they lead the Aortic Center, bringing together expertise on the diagnosis and treatment of complex aortic conditions. US News & World Report’s “Best Hospitals” ranks NYU Langone No.1 hospital in the US for cardiology, heart and vascular surgery.

Treasury Department Releases New Guidance Restricting Wind, Solar Tax Credits

by Aldgra Fredly via The Epoch Times (emphasis ours),

The Treasury Department on Friday unveiled guidance that tightens the criteria for wind and solar energy projects to receive federal tax credits.

The guidance follows President Donald Trump’s July 7 executive order directing the department to enforce the One Big Beautiful Bill Act he signed into law on July 4, which effectively ends renewable energy tax credits for projects that have not begun construction.

The new rules narrow down the definition of projects considered to have begun construction, replacing the previous rule that allowed developers to qualify after incurring 5 percent of the project costs.

It stated that the “Five Percent Safe Harbor” is no longer available for determining “whether a wind or solar facility has met the beginning of construction deadline and, thus, is not subject to the credit termination date.” However, small projects below 1.5 megawatts could still be considered for the provision.

Developers will need to prove they started “physical work of a significant nature” to establish that solar or wind projects have begun construction, and those projects must be continuous, according to the guidance.

“Provided that physical work performed is of a significant nature, there is no fixed minimum amount of work or monetary or percentage threshold required to satisfy the Physical Work Test,” it stated.

The newly released guidance counts activities such as setting anchor bolts into the ground, excavating land, and pouring concrete pads of the foundation as qualified work in progress.

Preliminary activities such as mapping, clearing a site, test drilling, or excavating to change the contour of the land are not considered as having begun construction, according to the updated rules.

It also stated that solar or wind facilities must be operational by the end of the fourth calendar year after construction begins, in order to fully qualify under the new rules.

The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) criticized the guidance as a “blatant rejection” of congressional approval and said that it threatens small businesses supporting the U.S. clean energy sector.

“American families and businesses will pay more for electricity as a result of this action, and China will continue to outpace us in the race for electricity to power AI,” SEIA CEO Abigail Ross Hopper said in a statement.

Clean Energy Buyers Association CEO Rich Powell said the guidance provides the business community with certainty “by honoring existing contracts” while ensuring proper use of taxpayer money.

Meeting these new standards will be challenging, but we are confident that American energy buyers will help developers rise to the challenge of delivering all sources of power critical to the continued growth of the U.S. economy,” Powell stated.

The executive order to end federal subsidies for wind and solar energy projects cited concerns over the reliability of these energy sources and dependence on foreign-controlled supply chains.

In his order, Trump stated that reliance on “so-called ‘green’ subsidies” poses a national security risk by making the United States dependent on supply chains controlled by foreign adversaries.

“Ending the massive cost of taxpayer handouts to unreliable energy sources is vital to energy dominance, national security, economic growth, and the fiscal health of the nation,” the order stated.

Bristol Myers and SystImmune’s lung cancer drug gets FDA boost

Bristol Myers (NYSE:BMY) Squibb and SystImmune have received Breakthrough Therapy Designation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for their experimental drug iza-bren, aimed at treating advanced EGFR-mutant lung cancer.

The designation specifically targets patients with EGFR exon 19 or 21 mutations whose disease has progressed after treatment with EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI) and platinum-based chemotherapy.

Iza-bren functions as a bispecific antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) that targets both EGFR and HER3 receptors. The drug is being jointly developed by the two companies outside of China under an exclusive licensing agreement.

The FDA’s decision was supported by data collected from three ongoing clinical trials - a global study managed by SystImmune and two trials in China conducted by Biokin.

Early evidence from these studies has demonstrated improved efficacy with a manageable safety profile.

This regulatory milestone could potentially accelerate the development and review process for iza-bren in treating this specific subset of lung cancer patients who have limited treatment options after standard therapies fail.

US-Sanctioned Russian LNG Heads to Asia in Search for Buyers

Several liquefied natural gas tankers are heading to Asia from a Russian export facility sanctioned by the US, potentially testing Washington’s resolve to crack down on the trade amid high-level talks over the war in Ukraine.

The Iris and Voskhod vessels, which are carrying shipments from the Arctic LNG 2 plant in Siberia, began traveling to North Asia via the Northern Sea Route on Aug. 15 after being idled for weeks, according to ship-tracking data compiled by Bloomberg. Two other tankers that recently loaded at the plant also started heading toward Asia last week.
