‘Chinamaxxing’ TikTok’s latest senseless trend as young romanticize life in Communist society

America is out. China, of all things, is in.

At least on TikTok and Twitch, where a new trend called “Chinamaxxing” is taking the internet by storm, as young Americans declare they’re “becoming Chinese.”

They’re drinking hot water in the morning. They’re doing tai chi in their kitchens. They’re perfecting their chopstick skills and sporting Adidas track suits to achieve the elderly man in Beijing look.

But Chinamaxxing isn’t just a lifestyle trend. Many of the influencers praising Chinese culture are actively denigrating America. They’re aesthetically, morally and politically defecting to another superpower.

Young people are going crazy on social media, declaring that “you met me at a very Chinese time in my life.” Plenty of their newfound habits — like taking off their shoes before entering a room or getting into herbal remedies — are perfectly innocent.

There’s some cryptic Gen Z humor to it, too.

Odd memes, like a fortune teller delivering the verdict that “u will turn Chinese tomorrow” and blurry cats wearing conical straw hats, fit right in with Zoomers’ often indecipherable sensibilities.

Still, there’s a new level of indiscriminate cultural fetishization going on here.

Sure, we’ve had K-pop fads, a new embrace of Latin pop partly thanks to Bad Bunny, Scandinavian decor trends, French couture. But this myopic obsession with everything China isn’t about importing a great product from another country — it’s about Gen Z’s desperation to shed their American identity.

The Chinamaxxing trend really caught steam when Hasan Piker, a popular political streamer with Gen Z, traveled to China and streamed his tour around Beijing. He hyped up China on Twitch, declaring in a livestream from Tiananmen Square that he has “no patriotism in [his] heart for America.”

Though he was confronted by police for showing an AI-generated meme of himself as Mao Zedong while livestreaming in a public space, Piker still went on to say that China is the most ideal government today, in his eyes.

Piker, who holds huge sway with Gen Z lefties, doesn’t just denigrate America — he actively promotes our greatest adversary.

In a recent podcast episode about Chinamaxxing, independent journalist Taylor Lorenz, who covers internet culture, said that Piker told her that he’s “the most Chinese” and “the real white Chinese.”

Lorenz also took a stab at explaining why China is taking off with young people. “It seems like this paradise almost that Americans can kind of, like, project their hopes onto because our country feels so hopeless,” she said.

Projecting your hopes onto China sounds ludicrous. But just 41% of Gen Z say they’re proud to be Americans. Only 26% say we’re the best nation on the planet.

Plenty of Chinamaxxing’s associated habits — like drinking water in the morning or getting into herbal remedies — are perfectly innocent. But, there’s a new level of indiscriminate cultural fetishization going on with the trend.@ceme_2/ TikTok

A whole lot of young people who grew up on smartphones, being constantly bombarded with the worst news stories out of America, see the black box that is China as a refuge.

For American youth feeling like down-and-out victims in their own country, embracing “Chinamaxxing” can be a transgressive way to feel the same sense of culture and camaraderie that patriotism brings, all while actively dissing their homeland.

Some aspects of Chinamaxxing are tinged with anti-American sentiment.@gardengazette/ TikTok

But China is not our friend. The country’s Communist Party is complicit in countless human right violations, as well as genocide of the Uyghur people. They’ve trampled civil liberties in Hong Kong and Tibet. Freedoms — and the internet — can be revoked at a moment’s notice.

They control what religions citizens can practice, how many children a family can have, what news they can access. The government has even been accused of turning a blind eye to mass forced labor in manufacturing.

They decimated free speech and the free press in Hong Kong. Social media is all under centralized control. A social credit system dictates people’s behavior. Civilians can even get in trouble for noting that Xi Jinping resembles Winnie the Pooh.

China is no doubt reveling in Americans propagandizing themselves. There’s nothing they’d like more than a generation of self-loathing Americans wide open to their influence.

I’m all for young people drinking hot water in the morning if it makes them happy. But all-out cosplaying as Chinese is embarrassingly naive.

America is not perfect, but China most certainly isn’t better — even if streamers tell you otherwise.

Guess who’s colonizing New York City government

Your tax dollars at work: The city Health Department’s new Global Oppression and Public Health Working Group is, no surprise, another Israel-bashing outfit — and likely a sign of many more to come under Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

It transparently has nothing to do with health in New York City (or anywhere), really: It’s all about the usual “pro-Palestinian” noise about “genocide.”

Yet at least some public resources are supporting it: The “working group” met in the middle of the workday Tuesday at DOH headquarters in Long Island City (with some staff zooming in); how many were on the clock?

This is simply rank politicization, washed through the lefty-groupthink insistence that everything bad is related and driven by some combination of capitalism, white supremacy, “settler colonialism” and so on: The uni-cause is all.

If he had any interest in doing his job, the mayor would stand up for professionalism in the city workforce by ordering the “working group” shut down, or at least forced off city property and out of working hours.

But our mayor is a committed, lifelong Israel-hater himself, and his Democratic Socialist movement is all about using public resources to fuel its “transformative” agenda.

So he’s more far likely to defend this by dishonestly pretending the issue is city employees’ right to have and express their own views etc. etc. — all the things he’d never say if the outfit were pro-Israel or even anti-Hamas.

Fact is, the true chief purpose of organizations like the “working group” is to claim turf — to warn pro-Israel DOH staff to keep their heads down or better yet find jobs somewhere else.

This is ideological Jew-hate colonizing city government, pure and simple — a complete disgrace of a kind you can expect to see prosper for the next four years.

As NYPD shoots knife-wielding man, Mamdani renews push for social worker response

Heart-pounding bodycam footage shows the moment an NYPD officer shot and wounded a mentally ill 22-year-old man who lunged at the cop with a knife inside a Queens home last week.

The Jan. 26 police shooting of schizophrenic man Jabez Chakraborty has prompted backlash from the family, and fueled a renewed push from Mayor Zohran Mamdani for his proposed Department of Community Safety to deal with mental health crises.

The clip, released by the NYPD on Tuesday, begins with a 911 call from a female relative who requested “involuntary transportation” for Chakraborty, who she said had been hurling glass against the wall.

The family member initially asked for only EMS — not police — referring to a previous time that officers responded to a call involving Chakraborty, who officials described as having a “history of mental issues.”

“Last time when something like this happened, we called for the cops and they said we should have called for an ambulance instead,” the relative said.

But the operator replied that “normally both parties” – meaning the NYPD and FDNY – respond to such cases.

The footage then moves to the moment two officers – including Tyree White – arrived at the doorstep on Parsons Boulevard near 85th Avenue in Briarwood and knocked, before stepping back.

“Ever since I’ve been watching videos, I don’t stand by the door no more,” White can be heard saying.

“I know, you just never know, right?” the second officer replied.

A woman answered the door and the uniformed cops followed her into the living room – only for Chakraborty to immediately grab a knife from the kitchen and brandish it as he stepped toward White.

A female relative stood in front of him and tried to block him with her arm, but he continued to step forward, blade in hand.

“Put the knife down! Drop the knife!” White could be heard yelling multiple times.

White walked into the vestibule and closed a door to keep Chakraborty from advancing on him, the clip shows.

But Chakraborty pushed his way through the door and again stepped toward White, knife in hand, according to the footage.

That’s when White opened fire, hitting Chakraborty four times, as family members yelled and cried.

Chakraborty was taken to Jamaica University Hospital Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition.

Police Benevolent Association President Patrick Hendry said in a statement that the officers involved “did their job professionally and with restraint under terrible circumstances.”

“The video makes it clear that these police officers walked into an unpredictable, fast-moving and dangerous situation,” the union head said. “There was no time or space for them to de-escalate the situation before they were forced to act.”

But the wounded man’s family slammed cops’ response, claiming in a Wednesday statement that officers “caused the situation to escalate quickly and unnecessarily.”

“Rather than de-escalate the situation, the officer instead further escalated by drawing his gun and yelling orders at Jabez.”

“Within a minute of NYPD’s arrival, Jabez was shot multiple times and almost killed, while he was calmly eating food just minutes earlier,” the family said. “This is why officers should not be responding to medical support calls.”

The family also called on the Queens DA’s office to “drop the prosecution against our son.”

“Given our experience, and that of many other families, we call on the Mayor for systems where we can call for responders who are not police,” the statement said. “We call for changes where the needs of families in the aftermath of such incidents are centered rather than further traumatized over and over.”

In response, an NYPD spokesperson said Wednesday that “the 911 caller requested an involuntary transport. EMS cannot transfer someone involuntarily and NYPD must be present.”

Mamdani on Tuesday said he didn’t believe Chakraborty should face criminal charges, telling reporters, “in viewing [police body-cam] footage, it is clear to me that what Jabez needs is mental health treatment, not criminal prosecution from a district attorney.”

He argued that Chakraborty’s shooting highlighted the urgent need for a different mental health response system.

“That is why I proposed creating a Department of Community Safety to build a mental health system rooted in prevention, and sustained care, and a real crisis response, so officers no longer have to handle these situations alone,” he said at an unrelated press conference.
