Homan: Sanctuary policies making US less safe

The White House's chief border security official, Tom Homan, blamed sanctuary policies for making local communities "less safe" in an interview with Fox News on Saturday.

"If they don't let us [apprehend] the bad guy in the safety and security of the jail, now we've got to send a whole team of six or seven people to look for this person," said the Border Czar, referring to current prohibitions against the profiling of a suspect's immigration background. "What sanctuary cities do is give sanctuary to criminals, which makes the communities less safe and puts officers at greater risk" he added.

As part of current United States immigration laws, local law enforcement and city workers generally do not ask residents or victims of crime about their legal immigration status. Jails often refuse federal requests to hold undocumented individuals past their scheduled release date unless accompanied by a judicial warrant.
