Iraqi President Nizar Amedi said on Saturday that Iraq would not allow its territory to be used to attack Iran or any other country, as he stressed Baghdad’s determination to avoid being drawn into the war involving its neighbor.
“This is not our war,” Amedi said, adding that Iraq was “a country exhausted by wars.” He said, however, that Iraq’s geography and its relations with Iran meant it was inevitably affected by the conflict’s economic and security repercussions.
Amedi also reaffirmed that weapons should be exclusively under state control, calling it a “national and constitutional” decision that should be implemented “wisely and responsibly,” without foreign interference or confrontation.
