'France to Al-Arabiya: Int'l forces to be deployed to Lebanon'

The French Foreign Ministry told Al-Arabiya on Thursday that international forces will be deployed to Lebanon at the request of the Lebanese state.

The ministry detailed that the international forces will be sent to the southern part of the country "with the support of the United States and European participation." The main aim of this move is to have the forces help the Lebanese army, the ministry explained.

Meanwhile, Israel previously insisted that it wouldn't leave the "security zones" in Lebanon, adding that it would remain there "indefinitely."

'NYT: US said to have feared Israel was plotting to kill Iran's negotiators'

United States officials believed that Israel was planning to assassinate Iran's top negotiators, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, during Washington and Tehran's negotiations, The New York Times reported on Thursday, citing current and former US officials.

According to the report, US officials even asked regional countries to warn Iran that Israel might attack the two officials to warn Iran that Israel might attack the two officials in order to prevent the negotiations from being jeopardized.

However, US authorities acknowledged that, during the most intense phase of the war, Araghchi and Ghalibaf may have been legitimate targets for Israel, which intended to overthrow the hardline Iranian government, the sources said.

Palantir CEO: Some US gov't clients using open-source AI

Palantir Technologies Inc. CEO Alex Karp revealed that some United States government customers, with the company's help, switched to open-source AI models, according to an interview released by the Information on Thursday.

Karp detailed that the clients are choosing Nvidia Corp.'s Nemtron AI models over, for example, Anthropic's AI models. His comments come after a big fallout between the US Department of Defense and Anthropic. While Karp couldn't share which agencies in the US government were switching to Nvidia open-source AI models, the media outlet claimed that some of his remarks might have suggested that the Pentagon was at least testing them.

Talking about Nemotron, the Palantir CEO said that it provides "equal or, in some cases, superior performance on the battlefield use cases, which are mostly highly classified." Karp further mentioned that while China also offers open-source AI models, they could pose potential security risks. "We've got to fight for making sure the open models we have in America are usable," he insisted.

‘Do not swim’ warning issued for 5 NYC beaches with high bacteria for 4th of July

Five New York city beaches are under advisory amid a heatwave set to make Independence Day weekend a real scorcher.

The advisory means the water at these beaches has high levels of bacteria. The city’s Department of Health advises against swimming and wading under this warning.

Warmer temps and direct sunlight can speed up bacterial growth in beach water and sand.

The city’s testing measures enterococci — a fecal bacteria that is generally not harmful, but could indicate more dangerous bacteria and other microbes are in the water.

It’s possible contaminated water can cause GI symptoms (like diarrhea, vomiting, cramping and pain), or infect wounds.

In the five boroughs, safe levels of enterococci are below 104 per 100 mL of water per test, or 35 on average over the month.

Here are the beaches under advisory:

  1. Sea Gate 42nd, Brooklyn: This private beach at the western end of Coney Island measured 233 / 100 mL — more than double the limit — on Monday.
  2. Whitestone Boosters Civic Association (Boosters Beach), Queens: This private beach measured 136 Tuesday, down from 873 last week, which was over 8 times the limit. This month, they measured 56 on average.
  3. Douglaston Manor Beach, Queens: This private beach has measured 77 on average this month, 42 over the limit. Last week, officials found 1,362 bacteria in the water — 13 times the limit — but dropped this week to just 10.
  4. Trinity Danish Young People’s Society, Bronx: This month’s average is just over the limit at 37 at the private beach club. Last week, the bacteria levels were more than double the acceptable levels (228), but Tuesday it dropped to just 10.
  5. White Cross Fishing Club, Bronx: This private beach, right next to Trinity Danish, measured 127 Tuesday, down from 194 last week.

If you choose to swim, the EPA recommends avoiding putting your head under the water or swallowing water.

Even if you’re just wading, keep open wounds out of the water, and wash hands after playing in sand.

These beaches are considered safe and open:

  • Bronx: Orchard Beach, American Turner, Danish American Beach Club, Morris Yacht Club, Schuyler Hill Civic Association, West Fordham Street Association
  • Brooklyn: Coney Island, Manhattan Beach, Gerritsen/Kiddie Beach, Kingsborough Community College, Sea Gate Beach Club
  • Queens: Rockaway Beach, Breezy Point 219th, Breezy Point Reid Ave, The Strand
  • Staten Island: Cedar Grove, Midland Beach, South Beach, Wolfe’s Pond Beach

Water testing generally happens once a week across the city, except at Rockaway and Breezy Point, which gets monitored twice as often.

Because the latest numbers are from several days ago, it’s possible the baking heat has made conditions even worse.

The city may close beaches if things get worse, but also if they get reports of repeated illness, or if officials spot “hazardous amounts” of floating debris, infectious waste, contaminants, or evidence of sewage or wastewater at the beach.

Fired trans Dem campaigner urges followers ‘kill your local Republican’, vows ‘trans jihad’

A transgender activist and former campaign volunteer for a Democratic congressional candidate in Wisconsin called for deadly violence against Republicans — and vowed to unleash “trans jihad” against the “animals” in the MAGA movement in a series of unhinged videos on social media.

In one such posting, Teha Delaruelle, who briefly volunteered on the campaign of Wisconsin Democratic Socialist Katrina deVille, who is also transgender, sits in front of a dry-erase board scrawled with “kill your local Republican” in black marker.

“We’re going to make this the moderate position for the state of Wisconsin,” Delaruelle says while pointing at the sick message.

“It’s about making the oppressor, the bigots, the animals that make up MAGA, for example, right? So for decades, everyone else, all the marginalized, minorities, we’ve had to be the ones that walk down the streets with anxiety, with fear, but no, no more, no, no, no, no, no, no more, folks,” Delaruelle states disjointedly in the recording.

“We’re gonna do the reverse. We’re gonna make it so that they will be the ones that have to walk down the streets in fear, anxiety and worry. And we’re not gonna make this like, oh, they gotta do this for like, a week or something, where they get really scared. No, this is their new reality. And it’s never gonna change,” the crazed activist pledges before ponderously holding up two fingers and saying “peace.”

In an equally deranged Substack post along the same theme from earlier this month, Delaruelle bemoans what he calls an ongoing “genocide” against “trans and queer folk,” and says the only way to meet the threat is to wage war.

Delaruelle encouraged followers to take up a “trans jihad” against the “animals” in the MAGA movement, vowing to make them live in fear.Instagram/tehabbygal_

“Society desires nothing less than our total extermination, therefore we must destroy their society. We must answer this call to a [sic] existential struggle, our jihad, our Trans Jihad.”

Reached by email Thursday morning, deVille said Delaruelle was a campaign volunteer for a “very short while” but was removed when it became apparent they were “deeply troubled,” and later blocked from all of her accounts and pages “because they were actively creating a dangerous situation around my campaign.”

DeVille also denounced the former-volunteer’s alarming calls for violence against Republicans

“I want to be clear that I do not accept or condone violence or threats toward anyone and do not encourage violence, hate, or threats of any kind,” deVille said.

“The threats she has posed have also made my life more dangerous, and I understand first hand how awful this is, how awful it feels, and how absolutely unacceptable any of this is.”

“I also hope that she is able to get help and find peace, and that no one becomes hurt or endangered from this senseless situation.”

Delaruelle did not immediately respond to The Post’s requests for comment.

Carney to Keep North BC Tanker Ban as Alberta to Unveil Pipeline Proposal

Prime Minister Mark Carney announced a deal with British Columbia that keeps an oil tanker ban in place for Canada’s north coast, and commits billions of dollars in federal funding for energy, mining and transportation projects.

The move is meant to boost Premier David Eby’s top priorities for his province, but also serves to soften the blow of a more controversial announcement: Alberta’s bid to build a new crude oil pipeline through BC’s mountainous terrain.

Insulet Recalls Omnipod Pods After Insulin-Delivery Failure Risk Identified, FDA Says

his recall involves removing certain devices from where they are used or sold. The FDA has identified this recall as the most serious type. This device may cause serious injury or death if you continue to use it. The affected products and recommendations for what to do with the devices below have not changed.

Affected Product

The FDA is aware that Insulet has issued a letter to affected customers recommending certain Omnipod Pods be removed from where they are used or sold. Affected devices:

  • Omnipod 5 Automated Insulin Delivery System
  • Omnipod DASH Insulin Management System
  • Omnipod Insulin Management System (Omnipod Eros)
  • Full List of Affected Product

What to Do

Do not use Pods from affected lots. Check all Pods to determine if they are affected. If you are currently using a Pod from an affected lot, immediately change your Pod to resume insulin delivery. If you do not have enough Pods due to this issue, talk to your healthcare provider about other methods of insulin delivery.

On May 26, Insulet sent all affected customers a letter recommending the following actions:

  • DO NOT use Pods from the affected lots.
    • Check the lot number on your Pod tray lid, the Pod box or the Pod itself to determine if your Pods are affected.
    • Follow Insulet’s instructions and pictures to help identify the lot number for your Pods
    • Review the lot list to determine whether your Pod is impacted.
    • All Pods within a single box will be from a single lot and if the lot is affected, do not use any of those Pods.
  • If your Pods are impacted:
    • Discontinue use of any impacted Pod immediately. If the Pod you are currently using is from an affected lot, it is important that you immediately change your Pod to resume insulin delivery. When changing your Pod, confirm that the new Pod is not from an affected lot.
    • Follow the instructions provided by Insulet in their customer email to acknowledge that your Pod is impacted and request a replacement.
    • For additional information, call Insulet’s Product Support phone line at 1-800-641-2049, available 24/7.
  • Users will receive a return kit with clear instructions on how to send back any unused affected Pods.
  • Always check the expiration date before using a Pod. Do not use any Pod that is past its expiration date, as expired Pods may not function as intended.
  • If your Pod supply is depleted due to this issue, consult with your healthcare provider for alternative means of insulin delivery while waiting for Pods to be replaced. Always follow your healthcare provider's guidance on appropriate glucose monitoring.

Reason for Recall

Insulet identified that some Pods from specific lots may have a small tear in the tubing (cannula) just above the skin, between the Pod and the point where the cannula enters the body.  If this occurs, insulin may leak outside of the Pod instead of being fully delivered into the body as intended, potentially leading to under-delivery of insulin.  If you are using an affected Pod, you may notice wetness on your skin or Pod adhesive or detect the smell of insulin. However, in some cases, this may be difficult to detect and may go unnoticed.

If insulin leakage occurs, your blood glucose levels may rise and may not respond as expected to insulin delivery. If using Omnipod 5, and it is in Automated Mode, this could trigger an Automated Delivery Restriction alert, advising you to troubleshoot. However, this issue may happen without triggering any alert, meaning you could receive less insulin than needed without realizing it. Do not rely only on Pod alerts to know if something is wrong.

If insulin is not delivered properly, you may experience high blood glucose levels due to under-delivery of insulin. In the most severe cases, prolonged and persistent high blood glucose levels can lead to diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), a serious medical condition that requires prompt medical treatment and can be life-threatening if not treated.

Note that this issue does not affect continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems or CGM readings.

As of May 20, Insulet has reported 24 serious injuries and no deaths associated with this issue.
