The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operation (UKMTO) said on Monday that it received a report of suspicious activity involving a tanker approximately 50 nautical miles south of Aden, Yemen.
The tanker, which was traveling east through the International Recommended Transit Corridor (IRTC), reported that six small boats approached it from the starboard side. One of the boats came within five cables, prompting the vessel's armed security team to fire warning shots.
The remaining five boats stayed approximately one nautical mile away from the tanker. The incident came amid heightened regional tensions after the Houthi-run Foreign Ministry accused Saudi Arabia of having "declared war" on Yemen.
