United States President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that he and North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Secretary General Mark Rutte formed "the framework of a future deal with respect to Greenland and, in fact, the entire Arctic Region," which means he would pause the introduction of a 25% tariff on certain countries that he threatened to impose on February 1.
"This solution, if consummated, will be a great one for the United States of America, and all NATO Nations," Trump wrote on Truth Social. He added that "additional discussions," led by Vice President JD Vance, State Secretary Marco Rubio, and Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff, "are being held concerning The Golden Dome as it pertains to Greenland."
Previously, Trump said he will discuss the issue of Greenland's status with Rutte, claiming that the latter is "more important" to negotiate with than Denmark.
