Walz in talks with WH after troop threat eases

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is having an "ongoing conversation with the White House," his office said Friday, after President Donald Trump pulled back a threat to invoke the Insurrection Act and deploy troops to Minneapolis.

The statement said the meeting with former governors and business, faith, elected and civic leaders happened after Trump stepped back from the plan. "If I needed it, I would use it. I don't think there is any reason right now to use it," Trump said earlier in the day.

Meanwhile, turmoil is growing within the Minneapolis US Attorney's office. At least six career prosecutors have reportedly resigned amid pressure over how the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis by an ICE officer is being handled. The resignations stem from concerns about treating the case as an assault on a federal officer rather than a civil rights investigation, and from a request to probe the victim's widow.
