'Carney: We are in the midst of a global rupture'

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney declared during his address in Davos on Tuesday that "we are in the midst of a rupture, not a transition" regarding the current situation on the global stage.

"Over the past two decades, a series of crises in finance, health, energy, and geopolitics have laid bare the risks of extreme global integration. But more recently, great powers have begun using economic integration as weapons," Carney remarked, while drawing particular attention to the use of tariffs as "leverage." Moreover, he warned of the risks of global integration becoming a "source of your subordination" with possible reference to the recent actions by the United States.

Additionally, Carney stated that the architecture associated with the international order established after World War II is under "threat." Furthermore, Carney noted that this resulted in "many countries" seeking to "develop greater strategic autonomy in energy, food, critical minerals, in finance and supply chains," adding that "when the rules no longer protect you, you must protect yourself."
