United States President Donald Trump warned on Wednesday that Washington could be forced to use the military base in Diego Garcia to "eradicate a potential attack" from Iran if the talks with Tehran fail.
In a post on Truth Social, the US president explained that he spoke with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer about the strategic importance of the island for the US and UK, reiterating that "he is making a big mistake by entering a 100 Year Lease with whoever it is that is 'claiming' Right, Title, and Interest to Diego Garcia."
Moreover, Trump described the Iranian government as a "highly unstable and dangerous Regime" arguing it might also target the UK, "as well as other friendly Countries." Trump concluded by urging Starmer not to renounce ownership of the island, which he said would be "a blight on our Great Ally."
