The Iranian Parliament approved on Monday a bill to impose fees on vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Potential fees for oil tankers could reach $2 million.
According to the Iranian media, which cited a member of the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, the new plan to regulate the passage's navigation also includes a ban on the passage of ships associated with the United States, Israel or countries that have previously imposed unilateral sanctions against Iran, while duties must be paid in Iranian rials.
Earlier today, the White House declared that the US does not support the tolling of vessels transiting through the strait.
