Kuwait says tanker hit in 'direct Iranian attack'

 Kuwait confirmed that the tanker al-Salmi was struck in what it described as a "direct and criminal" Iranian attack while anchored at Dubai's port in the United Arab Emirates, according to a Kuwait Petroleum Corporation statement, carried by the Kuwait News Agency.

The vessel was loaded with crude when the strike damaged its hull and triggered a fire, the corporation said, warning of possible oil leakage into surrounding waters.

The news comes after the United Kingdom maritime agency first reported about a tanker being hit was hit by a projectile northwest of Dubai, igniting a fire.
