Meta Platforms, Inc. announced on Wednesday that it is launching new tools fueled by artificial intelligence to combat scams on Facebook, Messenger, and WhatsApp.
The social media giant revealed that the new AI tools will analyze various signals, including text, images, and context, to detect scam patterns and protect users. The company said that it is testing new warnings on Facebook that will alert users of "suspicious" friend requests, as well as alerts of "suspicious" device linking requests on WhatsApp. Meta is also launching "advanced scam detection" on Messenger in more countries this month.
"In 2025, we removed over 159 million scam ads for violating our policies, and we also took down 10.9 million accounts on Facebook and Instagram associated with criminal scam centers," Meta stated, adding that it is expanding its advertiser verification efforts.
