Shares of BioNTech SE plunged over 14% in premarket on Wall Street after the company's co-founders, Ugur Sahin and Ozlem Tureci, announced their plans to leave BioNTech by the end of 2026 in order to start a new venture. The company said in a statement that its Supervisory Board has already begun searching for successors. "Ozlem and I want to break new ground as pioneers once again. It has always been our vision to translate science into progress for patients. Now is the opportunity to unlock the next generation of breakthrough innovations," CEO Ugur Sahin said.
The company also released its quarterly earnings earlier today, reporting €2.86 billion for the entire fiscal year and €907 million for the fourth trimester of fiscal 2025.
