Washington intercepted encrypted messages that seemingly originated in Iran, commanding activation of the sleeper assets outside the country, ABC News reported on Monday, citing a federal government alert sent to law enforcement agencies.
The alert allegedly claimed the possibility of worldwide terror attacks following the killing of the Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The document claimed that there is "no operational threat tied to a specific location," but urged agencies to heighten their "situational awareness."
