Israel is considering a deeper incursion into southern Lebanon in order to expand its military presence in the neighboring country, CNN reported on Monday, citing two Israeli sources.
The goal of this move is to prevent Hezbollah strikes targeting Israeli forces and communities. "We have a problem with these missiles and you cannot deal with this only being a mile or a mile-and-a-half inside Lebanon," one of the sources told the news outlet.
According to the report, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will discuss these plans with top security officials later today. The Israeli military suggested the expansion of a security buffer zone along the border with Lebanon, the sources said.
