The United States Department of State ordered non-emergency US government employees and their families to leave Saudi Arabia, citing safety risks. The department updated its previous guidance, which had authorized but not required diplomatic staff to leave.
The State Department stressed that there is an "ongoing threat of drone and missile attacks from Iran" since the start of the US military campaign against Iran last week. It said that the US government has "limited ability" to assist citizens and warned of "significant disruptions" to commercial flights.
