US designates Muslim Brotherhood as terrorist

 The United States Department of State announced on Monday the designation of the Sudanese Muslim Brotherhood as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist and "the intent to designate the group as a Foreign Terrorist Organization."

As a reason for the designation, the Department listed "unrestrained violence against civilians to undermine efforts to resolve the conflict in Sudan," along with "mass execution of civilians ... based on race, ethnicity, or perceived affiliation with opposition groups." It is noted in the statement that many of the Brotherhood's fighters received "training and other support from Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)."

The department noted that "all property and interests" of the Brotherhood that are in the US were seized by Washington, adding that American citizens who engage with sanctioned individuals may face persecution.
