The United States asked Israel to stop striking energy infrastructure, particularly oil facilities, in Iran, Axios reported on Tuesday, citing three unnamed sources with knowledge of the matter.
According to the report, the US conveyed the message to senior Israeli officials, as well as to Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir. Additionally, they justified their request by claiming that strikes on energy sites harm the Iranian people, who are mainly against the regime, and could spark massive retaliatory attacks on energy facilities in the Gulf countries. Washington also said that US President Donald Trump wants to cooperate with Iran's oil sector after the war.
The report comes after Israeli forces struck several oil facilities near Iran's capital city of Tehran over the weekend.
