Shares of ASML Holding NV plummeted over 8% on Monday amid news that the chip-making equipment manufacturer is facing competition from China. According to a report by the Information, a Shanghai company has started producing immersion deep ultraviolet lithography (DUV) machines, a crucial step in scaling China's domestic semiconductor output. Sources familiar with the matter said the machine manufacturing is still in early stages, with only five units planned for production this year and 20 in 2027, while ASML delivered 131 last year.
ASML sank 8.20% at 4:45 pm CET, going for €1,435. Year to date, the company's shares are still up over 57%.
