'Iran lawmaker says gasoline imports halted under the US naval blockade'

 

Iran has effectively stopped importing gasoline because of the US naval blockade, parliament Energy Committee spokesperson Reza Sepahvand told ILNA on Saturday.

“Now that we are facing a naval blockade and gasoline imports have stopped,” Sepahvand said, warning that implementing the proposed national ID-based fuel allocation plan could later force the government to import gasoline at international and Persian Gulf FOB prices, raising costs and the budget deficit.

“We are facing problems supplying fuel given the number of vehicles,” he said.

Sepahvand said Iran was producing 130 million liters of gasoline a day, which he described as peak output, while consumption stood at 137 million liters.

“Even with all this, we are still facing a fuel-supply problem,” he said.
