'Axios: US, Israel may target Iran's leaders, energy sites'

 The United States and Israel are likely to launch a new round of "massive" strikes on Iran, targeting the country's leadership, energy, and nuclear sites, unless a last-minute deal is made, Axios reported on Wednesday, citing three US and Israeli sources.

Qatari mediators are attempting to persuade Iran to allow United Nations inspectors to visit its bombed nuclear sites to defuse tensions with the United States and prevent a new round of strikes shortly after the midterms, which is said to last for a week. According to the report, Iran would receive sanctions relief in exchange for nuclear concessions. Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Turkey, and Egypt are backing the Qatari mediation efforts to avoid another regional escalation.

Nevertheless, US President Donald Trump repeatedly signalled that another round of attacks may occur, while Tehran warned it would retaliate.
