Iran’s education minister has announced a directive requiring students to attend pro-government rallies on Wednesday nights in coordination with their schools.
“One of the valuable initiatives we have planned is the ‘self-sacrificing students’ program, and we are trying to make the most of this opportunity. Alongside these plans, we have taken other steps, including making the weekly Wednesday night gatherings available to students. We have issued a directive on this,” Alireza Kazemi said on Monday.
He also said schools would help arrange students’ attendance at a march on November 4, which he described as voluntary.
Iran’s nightly pro-government rallies have become an increasingly visible show of political force, occupying streets and squares following the mass protests of January.
