Iran is working toward an agreement with Russia to jointly develop small modular nuclear reactors, Behrouz Kamalvandi, spokesperson and deputy head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, said on Wednesday.
He said the two countries were preparing to sign a protocol to speed up joint work on the reactors.
"We have also made good progress in small modular reactors and are in the process of signing a protocol with the Russian side to accelerate their joint construction," Kamalvandi told Iranian state television.
