'White House scolds ‘we should not make jokes’ about Biden claim cannibals ate uncle'

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters Friday that it was inappropriate to poke fun at President Biden for falsely suggesting on two occasions earlier this week that his uncle, Ambrose Finnegan, was eaten by cannibals in New Guinea during World War II.

Jean-Pierre made the scolding comment during a back-and-forth with Fox News reporter Peter Doocy during her regular briefing — while New Guinea residents expressed a mix of outrage and amusement at the 81-year-old president’s remarks.

“Why is President Biden saying [Finnegan] was shot down — there is no evidence of that — and why is he saying that his uncle was eaten by cannibals?” Doocy asked, adding: “That is a bad way to go.”

“He lost his life. Look, we should not make jokes about this,” Jean-Pierre chided.

“It’s not — President Biden said his uncle was eaten by cannibals,” Doocy replied.

“Your last line, it’s for a laugh — it’s for a funny statement,” Jean-Pierre countered. “And he takes this very seriously. His uncle who served and protected this country lost his life serving, and that should matter.”

Biden first implied that his mother’s brother was eaten by tribesmen on Wednesday morning, shortly after visiting a war memorial that bears Finnegan’s name in the president’s birth city of Scranton, Pa.

“He got shot down in an area where there were a lot of cannibals at the time. They never recovered his body, but the government went back when I went down there and they checked and found some parts of the plane,” Biden said.

Hours later, the president told steelworkers in Pittsburgh that Finnegan “got shot down in New Guinea and they never found the body because there used to be — there were a lot of cannibals, for real, in that part of New Guinea.”

Some residents of Papua New Guinea, the present-day country near where Finnegan’s plane crashed in 1944, said they didn’t appreciate Biden’s remarks about cannibalism, which was practiced historically by some, but not all, of the region’s tribes.

“Implying that your [uncle] jumps out of the plane and somehow we think it’s a good meal is unacceptable,” Michael Kabuni, a lecturer in political science at the University of Papua New Guinea, told the Guardian.

“They wouldn’t just eat any white men that fell from the sky.”

Others found Biden’s claim humorous.

Allan Bird, governor of East Sepik province near where Finnegan died, told the British newspaper that “I am lost for words actually.”

“I don’t feel offended. It’s hilarious, really,” Bird said. “I am sure when Biden was a child, those are the things he heard his parents say. And it probably stuck with him all his life.”

The official US military account of Finnegan’s death contradicts the president’s story, and Jean-Pierre acknowledged Thursday that Biden’s relative actually died when his plane crashed into the ocean.

“For unknown reasons, this plane was forced to ditch in the ocean off the north coast of New Guinea. Both engines failed at low altitude, and the aircraft’s nose hit the water hard,”  the Pentagon’s Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency says.

“Three men failed to emerge from the sinking wreck and were lost in the crash. One crew member survived and was rescued by a passing barge. An aerial search the next day found no trace of the missing aircraft or the lost crew members.”

Biden has a long history of telling provably false personal anecdotes, or dubious tales for which there is no documentation, often in an apparent attempt to connect to his audience.

The oldest-ever sitting president also faces voter concerns about his cognitive fitness for office. He would be 86 if he completes a second term in 2029.

A New York Times poll last month found 73% of registered voters believe Biden is too old to be president — versus 42% who said so of former President Donald Trump, 77, who is seeking a rematch in November.

Plastic surgeons warn ‘Ozempic face’ has taken over Hollywood

 Why the long face? Ozempic.

Amid the weight loss treatment’s skyrocketing popularity, surgeons believe that Hollywood is experiencing a spike in the side effect known as “Ozempic Face.”

Several doctors claimed to the Daily Mail that celebs from John Goodman to Sharon Osborne are among those hit hardest by the alleged condition.

For the uninitiated, some side effects of taking Ozempic include sunken eyes, gaunt cheeks and saggy skin, often making the user appear older and more deflated.

“Ozempic face is essentially the same characteristics that we see when patients have rapid or regular weight loss,” Dr. Smita Ramanadham, a plastic surgeon in New Jersey, told the Daily Mail. “We see a loss of volume in the face, and when we lose fat in the face we see signs like the cheeks are more sunken in, more sagging skin and a general hollowing out of the features.”

The injectable treatment mimics a naturally occurring hormone that tells the brain it’s full, thereby curbing the appetite and inducing rapid weight loss.

Ozempic’s fat-fighting capabilities have understandably made it all the rage in body-obsessed Hollywood, which has allegedly resulted the aforementioned rise in “deflation,” according to experts.

After examining pics of 15 celebs who experienced a major weight loss transformation, a panel of surgeons speculated that at least half may have suffered from this facial emaciation.

The surgeons analyzed the case of actor John Goodman, 71, who shed nearly 200 pounds — nearly half his heaviest weight — since 2007.

Goodman has denied taking Ozempic and the “Roseanne” actor credited dieting, exercise and giving up booze for his pound-shedding pilgrimage.

“You see more lines, more wrinkles and more deflation in his face as he loses weight compared to when he was heavier and his face was fuller,” Ramanadham declared of Goodman. “These changes are just very typical of overall weight loss regardless of whether weight loss drugs were used.”

Also on the list was singer Robbie Williams, 50, who admitted in the fall that he was taking something “like Ozempic” without specifying the treatment.

Ramanadham believed this was evident in his visage, describing: “You can see a hollowing under the eyes and the cheeks and more wrinkles appearing because of a loss of volume. With Robbie, you can see the direct results of weight loss.”

“Ozempic face” was less pronounced with women, surgeons said, because they’re traditionally more likely to obscure flaws with fillers and makeup. However, they did point to Sharon Osbourne, who reportedly lost 42 pounds on the drug, as the most “dramatic” example of the condition.

“Her eyes look more sunken in, her cheeks have more hollowing,” claimed Ramanadham. “There is a significant loss in facial volume as well, and more wrinkling that is associated with it.”

Other alleged Tinsel-frown sufferers included Jessica Simpson, Scott Disick and Liam Payne, although surgeons attributed the latter’s streamlined countenance to buccal fat surgery, in which the fat pad is cored out of the cheeks.

Ozempic face is one of many side effects associated with the drug, of which 9 million prescriptions were written in the last three months of 2022, the Daily Mail reported.

Along with causing people to lose face, the treatment has also been blamed for including vision problems, constipation and even changes in personality.

Meanwhile, in January, several Ozempic adherents claimed they stopped taking the drug and ended up regaining more weight than they lost.

'Need to Prevent a Biden Economic Collapse Outweighs Charges Against Trump'

Republicans who attacked Trump have concluded there is no other realistic choice.

Sununu Says Trump ‘Contributed’ to Insurrection, but Still Has His Support

The New York Times reports Sununu Says Trump ‘Contributed’ to Insurrection, but Still Has His Support

Gov. Chris Sununu of New Hampshire said on Sunday that former President Donald J. Trump “absolutely contributed” to an insurrection and that Mr. Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election were “absolutely terrible” — but that nothing, not even felony convictions, would stop him from voting for Mr. Trump because the economy, border security and “culture change” were more important.

The interview, on ABC News’s “This Week,” showcased Mr. Sununu’s transformation from Trump critic — while supporting Nikki Haley in the Republican primary, he said Mr. Trump was “worried about jail time” and “not a real Republican” — to loyal foot soldier.

It is a transformation that has repeated itself time and again within the Republican Party, and one that Mr. Sununu previewed in January, when he was campaigning for Ms. Haley but said he would support Mr. Trump if he won the nomination.

“No one should be surprised by my support,” he said on Sunday. “I think the real discussion is, you know, Americans moving away from Biden. That’s how bad Biden has become as president. There’s just no doubt about it, right? You can’t ignore inflation. You can’t ignore the border and say that these issues in the courthouse are going to be the one thing that brings Biden back into office.”

Mr. Stephanopoulos pushed back once more.

“So just to sum up, you would support him for president even if he was convicted in classified documents,” he said. “You support him for president even though you believe he contributed to an insurrection. You support him for president even though you believe he’s lying about the last election. You’d support him for president even if he’s convicted in the Manhattan case. I just want to say, the answer to that is yes, correct?”

“Yeah,” Mr. Sununu said. “Me and 51 percent of America.”

The Guardian says Trump’s apologists say it doesn’t matter if he’s guilty of insurrection. That’s not true

The Guardian’s opinion does not matter. Nor does mine. It’s voters in aggregate, in the swing states that will decide.

Trump Trial in New Yok Begins, Expect a Media Circus

On April 14, I commented Trump Trial in New Yok Begins This Week, Expect a Media Circus

Trump’s hush-money criminal trial starts Monday with jury selection. He is required to attend. Can Trump get a fair trial? Ponder that while reading further.

I concluded Trump cannot get a fair trial for the simple reason there should not be a trial at all. Click on the link for my rationale.

The Georgia case genuinely merits a trial although District Attorney Fani Willis made a circus out of that case too by hiring her boyfriend, Nathan Wade, as the lead prosecutor.

By overplaying their hand everywhere, for clearly political and personal reasons, these district attorneys dramatically improved the odds of Trump being elected.

Sununu confirms my analysis.
