Sen. Blackburn demands probe of Ketanji Brown Jackson for attending politically charged Grammys

Sen. Marsha Blackburn urged Chief Justice John Roberts to launch an investigation into liberal Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson over her attendance at the Grammy Awards on Sunday.

Jackson, a longtime theater lover, was there because she had been nominated for a Grammy for narrating the audiobook version of her memoir, “Lovely One,” but Blackburn raised impartiality concerns due to anti-ICE jokes during the politically charged award show.

Some critics have accused Jackson of clapping during those jabs at Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

“While it is by no means unheard of or unusual for a Supreme Court justice to attend a public function, very rarely—if ever—have justices of our nation’s highest Court been present at an event at which attendees have amplified such far-left rhetoric,” Blackburn (R-Tenn.) wrote in a Thursday letter to Roberts.

Blackburn, who sits on the Senate Judiciary Committee, called for an investigation into whether Jackson’s actions comply with the Supreme Court’s Code of Conduct’s stipulation that justices “act at all times in a manner that promotes public confidence in the integrity and impartiality of the judiciary.”

The Supreme Court rolled out its first-ever code of conduct back in 2023 after public pressure over some of the conservative justices’ undisclosed gifts and travel.

All nine justices signed onto the code of conduct, but it appears to have few teeth.

Given that the high court is currently tackling high-profile cases revolving around President Trump, such as the birthright citizenship case, and will likely consider more immigration cases in the future, Blackburn another critics argued that Jackson’s appearance raises questions about whether she will be fair.

Attendees were seen donning “ICE Out” lapel pins, and some of the Grammy winners espoused anti-ICE rhetoric such as “No one is illegal on stolen land” and “F— ICE.”

Blackburn recounted how Sens. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) penned a letter to Roberts urging him to ensure that conservative Justice Samuel Alito would recuse himself in the 2020 election and Capitol riot cases because his wife put up a Revolutionary War-era flag at his house.

Alito declined to do so. At another point, Alito drew international headlines in 2022 when he publicly mocked European leaders for trashing the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn precedents guaranteeing a national right to abortion first set in Roe v. Wade.

Blackburn, who is running to be governor of Tennessee, also pointed to the lefty pressure campaign against conservative Justice Clarence Thomas over his vacationing with Dallas-based real estate guru and GOP donor Harlan Crow.

“Congressional Democrats and the legacy media have spent years smearing Republican-appointed Supreme Court justices as corrupt, partisan, and having engaged in conduct that violates the Court’s Code of Conduct,” Blackburn bemoaned.

“These public smear campaigns orchestrated by congressional Democrats and amplified by the mainstream media were baseless and a pathetic attempt to influence the decision-making process of the Court.”

The Tennessee Republican contended that, unlike the “meritless claims” against Alito and Thomas, there are “serious questions” about Jackson’s attendance at the Grammy Awards.

While Jackson typically sides with her two fellow liberal justices in polarizing cases, she has crossed ideological lines from time to time. For example, in 2024, she joined five conservative justices in deciding to significantly narrow a key Capitol riot-related charge used against Trump.

Jackson made her Broadway debut in late 2024, participating in a queer reimagining of William Shakespeare’s classic “Romeo & Juliet.”

The Post reached out to the Supreme Court for comment. The high court will hear its next round of oral arguments during the last week of February.

UK prime minister facing major leadership crisis over latest Epstein scandal

Already-struggling UK Leader Keir Starmer is facing mounting pressure to step down over the latest scandal involving his former ambassador to America’s shocking close links to Jeffrey Epstein.

The prime minister, whose popularity was already at a near-record low since his 2024 election, faced revolt even from his own party over the fresh revelations about former diplomat Peter Mandelson, who was even seen in his underwear with an unknown woman in photos in the latest Epstein files.

Starmer went into a desperate damage-control mode Thursday, accusing his one-time close ally of “deceit” — even though Mandelson’s friendship with the now-deceased pedophile was well known when Starmer gave him the cushy role as the UK’s ambassador to Washington in December 2024.

“I was lied to, lied to,” Starmer said — while conceding that he knew Mandelson was still close with Epstein after he was convicted of sex offenses in 2008.

“I am sorry. Sorry for what was done to you, sorry that so many people with power failed you, sorry for having believed Mandelson’s lies and appointing him,” Starmer said in a groveling apology to Epstein’s victims.

“None of us knew the depth and the darkness of that relationship,” Starmer insisted, saying he was also filled with “anger and frustration” at the escalating revelations of the close ties, which seemingly involved the once-powerful minister leaking government documents to the perverted moneyman.

Nigel Farage — whose anti-immigration Reform UK party is currently leading in the polls — called the Mandelson controversy the “biggest scandal” in British politics for over 100 years.

Members of Starmer’s own Labour Party have also gone on the attack, with one Welsh Labour MP telling the BBC: “Starmer has to go.”

“I’m personally not sure I could trust myself to back the prime minister in a confidence vote,” another MP told the Guardian

A former minister warned that the scandal was enough to take down the party, urging Labour leaders to drop Starmer.

“It’s time for a fresh start, the sooner the better,” the former minister told the Guardian

Rob Ford, professor of political science at the University of Manchester, said that Starmer was “essentially a boxer on the ropes.”

“His administration could fall over tomorrow, or it could stagger on for months or even years. (But) his authority is seriously shot,” Ford said.

He speculated that “whenever the moment comes when Starmer does finally leave, either of his own volition or because his MPs oust him … It will all be traced back to appointing Peter Mandelson.”

The rebellion comes at a tumultuous time for Starmer’s party, which is trailing in the polls at 18%, its lowest point since the 2024 general election, according to pollster Survation.

The populist Reform UK party — previously never a serious contender — leads at 31%, with the Conservative Party at 20%, spelling even more trouble for Starmer.

The UK’s borrowing costs also rose on Thursday as concerns grew on whether Starmer could survive the latest controversy.

As well as blaming Mandelson, Starmer said he also reached out to police to release video of the security vetting process for the one-time ambassador, which he suggested would absolve him.

Mandelson, who was fired last September following a previous batch of document release, has reappeared in the latest Epstein documents released by the Department of Justice last week.

The new records appeared to show that Mandelson had leaked government documents to Epstein in 2009 that would have helped the disgraced New York financier make profitable insider trades.

It has also emerged that Epstein sent $75,000 directly to Mandelson, with recorded payments listed to the British diplomat and his then-partner, now husband.

Along with the financial records, images were also released of Mandelson in his underwear and a shirt next to a woman in a bathrobe.

Following the release of the new documents, Mandelson, a government minister, quit his position in parliament’s upper chamber, with police opening an investigation against him for alleged misconduct in office.
